Temporary Sculpture Workshop

Join experienced fine artist Hannah Brown this summer to explore sculpture. During the summer School you will have the opportunity to play with a variety of powder-based mediums, working both individually and collaboratively to create temporary artworks and small sculptures to take home.

Hannah utilises a variety of powder based materials such as plaster powder, activated charcoal and flock. She explores their limitations through a series of simple processes and actions including, heaping, compacting, scattering and layering. Sometimes the sculptures are formed by using only fine casting plaster in its pure form, sometimes the sculptures have a supporting feature such as a wooden base that the powder is placed on top of. This making process in turn, informs the outcome of the work and often results in a sculpture that has an illusion of solidity, but is in fact, a fragile pile of powder.

Participants enrolled on the workshop will be invited to play with these materials through different activities. The group will consider the balance of shape, form, surface texture and colour. They will record their findings through photography and will take home a number of artworks.

This workshop is for adults only. We also run Summer Schools for Young People.

Course Fee: £40
