Through my project, I am interested to investigate the translation of literary images into visual images. In particular, I am concerned with the illustration of poems and the collaboration between the illustrator and the poet. My curiosity for book illustrations is coming from the desire of finding visual solutions based on text interpretation in order to intensify the reading experience. How is illustration categorized between art and design? What impact has the book illustration on the reading process?
During my project, I focused on the exploration of illustrator - poet collaboration. Collaborating with the young poet Rebecca Audra Smith, provided me with a new creative challenge and gave me the opportunity to examine from a different angle the process of creating ink drawings in response to her poems.
