Benjamin Neilson

MA Graphic Design and Art Direction

For the last two years, I have questioned my purpose as a graphic designer, does my work need an intention, can I produce works for myself or for no reason at all? This lead me into looking at Albert Camus’s ideas on the absurdism which I had used as a stepping off point to think of the idea of absurd design.

Developing methodologies from looking at movements like Dadaism and surrealism I began to find and search for the absurd in the world and looking how I could apply it to the modern society, producing posters that are designed to either make people laugh, offend or to just stand out completely it is an absurd form of design.

A design that just exists.
