Luminescence

Oceanic creatures that are able to glow inspire the series of “Luminescence” pieces, this gravitated me toward the discovery of jellyfish as they produce bioluminescent. I was fascinated and amused by their natural glow, movement, and their organic form.

Coming from a textile background experimenting with mix media is what makes my practice exciting. The pieces are developed using a light sensitive glow-in-the-dark yarn, that under a normal condition, the yarn behaves like a regular yarn. The idea of mixing a standard yarn and a glow-in-the-dark yarn allows the pieces to transform in the dark as they glow a pigmented green.

My work is about exploring scale, texture and dimension to develop the pieces I have used, traditional hand techniques such as crocheting, knitting, and twisting. This play an important role in my practice as the methods creates powerful and dramatic details throughout the pieces.
