Stack Awards success for School of Art alumni

20 December 2016

Alumni-ran publications Counterpoint and NOUS Magazine shortlisted for independent magazine awards

The work of Manchester School of Art alumni has been recognized by Stack Magazines as some of the most exciting and inspiring work by independent magazine publishers of 2016.

Counterpoint, co-produced by Art Director and BA Illustration with Animation alumni Bethany Thompson, was shortlisted for the Best Use of Illustration, while NOUS Magazine, founded by MA Design and Art Direction Alumni Lisa Lorenz, was up for the Art Director of the Year Award.

Both Counterpoint and NOUS were up against over 390 publications submitted from all over the world, to make their shortlists, with a judging panel of industry experts having a month to interrogate the magazines.

‘It was such a massive honour to be shortlisted for Stack’s Best Use of Illustration award!’ said Bethany Thompson.

‘We’re overwhelmed to have had such a wonderful response to the magazine, and for Counterpoint to be up there with such incredible titles as Amuseum, Weapons of Reason and Ladybeard is a phenomenal feeling.

We pride ourselves on featuring brilliant new illustrators, and it’s so fantastic to be recognised for that. As an illustrator myself, I believe that visual responses are absolutely as significant as written content, and I think it’s really important that illustrators are given the freedom to respond to the magazine with their own ideas.

We’d love to thank all of our amazing contributors – we couldn’t have done it without you!’
