Grandma and the Monster

..and other MMU films dominate Exposures Festival

GRANDMA and the Monster and other MMU films are taking a UK Student Film Festival by storm.

MMU dominates the list at the Exposures Festival at the Cornerhouse with no fewer than nine finalists.

The MMU films have been made by undergraduates on the BA Contemporary Film and Video and the BA Interactive Arts courses.

Finalists are:

Grandma & The Monster (Director: Lucy Elliott/Debbie Steer) - A combination of old age and the disaster movie!
Member of the British Empire (Dir: Chris Gollop) – Social-realist inspired drama about an Asian boy in Rochdale.
School Daze (Dir: Amy Hodgson) – Humorous look at teen school life.
Suburbia: The Musical(Dir: Aaron O'Sullivan) – A musical antidote to society’s ills.
A Bite of Life (Dir: Doaa Al Soraimi) – Documentary exploring cultural differences between British and Yemeni Arabic culture.
The Mouse Hunt (Fiona Campbell) – A glimpse into the tiny world of the skirting board inhabitants
Snared (Tom Judd) – One man’s efforts to escape repetition.
Gloved Up (Dir: Lee Kirby) – Community relationships in a Stockport boxing gym.
Past and Future Self (Dir Austin Houldsworth) – The parallels between human development and the Universe.

Head of the School of Art, Professor Steve Hawley said: "We have some very talented film-makers coming through the School. Lee Kirby's film is particularly significant as he made it as a first year student and it was chosen for the Channel 4 online documentary cinema site 4Docs."

Winning films will be selected on December 4 by the jury which includes film critic Mark Kermode and film director Marc Evans.
