Student lights up Royal Television Society Awards

Designer chosen to create visuals

MMU design student Michael Jones added some extra glitz to the Royal Television Society NW Awards.

His visuals for the Manchester ceremony, hosted by Corrie's Sally Lindsay and comedian Dave Spikey, added a stunning backdrop to the Awards at the Midland Hotel.

Michael, a BA Design and Art Direction undergraduate, was selected to create the opening title sequence and the category 'stings' for the ceremony.

Winners included Johnny Vegas, Rupert Hill, Alun Armstrong and the late David Plowright.

Competition

The competition to produce the visual on the night was open to graphic artists, computer animators and professional and student creatives based in the North West.

The 32-year-old, from Oldham, who is in the final year of his degree said: "I aimed to capture the glitz and glamour of an awards ceremony in my design by using flashing and sparkling shapes combined with a dramatic palette of red, white and black.

"I found working with industry professionals invaluable."
