Lund of Hope and Glory
Business graduate called up by England
Magnus Lund is the latest MMU graduate to play rugby for England.
The 23-year-old former business student was this week named in England’s rugby union team to face Scotland on Saturday.
The Sale Sharks flanker will line-up alongside the returning Jonny Wilkinson and debutant Andy Farrell when new coach Brian Ashton sends out his side in the RBS Six Nations opener at Twickenham.
Born in Manchester, Lund was brought up in Kendal and went on to study BA (Hons) Business Enterprise at MMU Business School.
Sport at MMU
Before concentrating on rugby, Lund — who stands at 6ft 3ins and weighs 16st 7lb — was a talented basketballer and both rugby and basketball for MMU.
He was also a member of the England 7s squad which won silver at the Commonwealth Games last year.
He made his debut for Sale in 2002 and is a team-mate of another MMU graduate and England international Mark Cueto, who studied sport science at MMU Cheshire.
Magnus is the latest in a line of MMU rugby associations which include Dewi Morris, who learned his rugby at Alsager, David Rees, Will Harrison and Danny Grewcock.
