Young artists' big break

Hundreds of school children exhibit work at MMU

Children from 50 schools across Manchester have been given the opportunity of a lifetime - to see their art work exhibited at a city centre gallery - thanks to Manchester Metropolitan University.

Over 600 pieces of artwork from budding artists aged three to eighteen are on display at the ‘Out of Schools’ exhibition, which runs until 20th July at MMU’s Holden Gallery.

Highlights include a ball-gown made from gossip magazines, created by Nicola Metcalfe at Barlow RC High School in East Didsbury, and 1mx2m self portraits by students at Wright Robinson Specialist College in Gorton.

Described by MMU as a ‘celebration of artwork by Manchester Schools’, the exhibition was developed by the University’s Faculty of Art and Design in conjunction with the Local Authority Education Department, and includes collaborative art projects undertaken by schools and MMU art and design students.
