MMU offers all sorts of ways to explore greenness and sustainability through undergraduate courses in ecology, environmental management, conservation and sustainable development.

New Masters courses for those wishing to pursue their studies are now starting, 2007/08, in more specific fields of Urban Regeneration, Sustainable Aviation, GIS and Spatial Analysis and the highly topical area of Environment and Climate Change.

A Masters in Ecological Monitoring will start in 2008/09.

These will complement the existing successful programmes for MSc Environmental Management and Sustainable Development and MSc Countryside Management.

Popular with good prospects

Environmental Management and Sustainable Development is already one of the University’s outstanding Masters courses, attracting 26 students last year.

Masters student Gudrun Cartwright, 35, is particularly satisfied with opportunities for individual research: "I organised a climate change workshop for business leaders for my research project . It was attended by managers from some of the top companies in the region, including BT, Virgin Trains and Astra Zeneca to explore corporate attitudes to climate change initiatives."

Prinicipal lecturer in environmental science Dr Chrissie Gibson said: "We are confident these courses will be popular with students and with our industry partners and employers.

"The Masters in Urban Regeneration is not only topical it is designed to meet the shortage of regeneration practitioners which has been identified nationally."
