TEACHER training at MMU has been officially rated in the Top 10 in the country.

The University’s Institute of Education is one of only a handful of providers in England to achieve top marks for both primary and secondary education.

Teacher training in England is rated by Ofsted on a scale of 1 to 4 with 1 being "outstanding. MMU has now achieved a 1 in both.

Of 141 providers nationally, 62 offer both primary and secondary with just 10 boasting top ratings in both.

In the North, only Northumbria and Manchester achieved as good a rating.

One-year postgraduate

MMU offers a four-year undergraduate programme and a one-year full-time postgraduate at the Didsbury and Crewe campuses. The University works with more than 1,000 schools at primary and 230 at secondary to provide placements for 2,300 trainees at Didsbury and Crewe.

Inspectors praised the consistently high quality of provision, praised leadership as "highly effective" and judged that schools in the partnership provided "good quality placements".

At primary level, Ofsted said that centre and school-based training was delivered by well qualified and experienced tutors who had "a wide range of recent and relevant classroom experience".

At secondary level, MMU offered "very good subject training at university complemented by high quality mentoring in the majority of schools".
