Hot on the heels of Anya Hindmarch, a reusable shopping bag designed by talented MMU graduates Jagruti Mistry and Katie Jeanes, both 22, is being launched at luxury department store Harvey Nichols this week.

Jagruti and Katie graduated from the BSc (Hons) Fashion Buying for Retail course at Hollings this summer. During their final year Manchester City Council's waste and recycling team set fashion students at the University a task to devise an environmentally friendly 'Little Green Bag' to be exclusively available for Harvey Nichols Food Market customers for a limited time period.

Simple and striking

Students were given a brief to create a bag that would both appeal to the Manchester fashion crowd and help combat the problem of plastic bags. Jagruti and Katie’s eye-catching design using two shades of green printed against the natural colour of the 100% cotton bag and featuring the slogan 'Little Green Bag' in a retro style caught the judges imagination.

George Bouvier, Senior Lecturer at Hollings, says of the final bag, "It is such a lovely and simple design, so usable and versatile that it is simply going to be snapped up!"

Harvey Nichols Manchester Store Manager Iain Mackenzie said, "We're sure it will be very popular."

The Little Green Bag, along with a Little Green Leaflet educating consumers on the negative effects that the use of plastic bags can cause, is available from the Second Floor Food Market at Harvey Nichols Manchester for a limited time period. Get one while you can!
