Climate change: Meet the scientists

HOW badly is Man destroying the environment? Are tropical forests dying? How can you reduce your ecological footprint?

If you want to know the science behind the headlines, come to an evening lecture at MMU’s Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences.

The event is called ‘Impacts of Global Change on Ecosystems: from Local to Global’ and features a host of experts including Dr Andrew Thomas and Dr Steve Hoon, winners of the Royal Geographical Society Award 2008 for their work on climate change and deserts.

Professor Nancy Dise will talk about her work on the effects of nitrogen pollution on meadows and grasslands, the largest survey of its kind in Europe, and fellow scientists will present research on peatlands, forests and on our personal carbon footprints.

The event runs from 6.30 to 8.45pm in the John Dalton Building, MMU, Oxford Road, Manchester (opposite the BBC).
