Continuing from the success of our first experimental drawing course, this series of drawing workshops is aimed at applying contemporary techniques and processes to traditional drawing methods to encourage expression and creativity. Learn new ways to create interesting and exciting drawing, each week focusing on a different area in order to develop a broad range of skills.

You don’t need to have attended the first Experimental Drawing Workshop, or have any experience or skills - just enthusiasm!

Make Your Own Clothes!

Introduction to Dressmaking - Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm


Tuesday 26th June 2018 - Tuesday 31st July

This course will enable you to make your own clothes by explaining and demonstrating pattern construction and fabric choice. The course will support you as you cut, sew and fit your own individual garment! This course will introduce you to the basics of garment construction. It covers getting to grips with a sewing machine, basic sewing skills and advice on equipment needed to start your own projects. Learn how to select and accurately cut a pattern, as well as how to choose an appropriate fabric.

You will learn essential dressmaking techniques such as finishing seams, how to set a sleeve, how to hem a skirt/dress, how to alter the garment to get a unique fit and how to finish your work to a high quality standard. This course will also cover how to alter patterns to incorporate design features, allowing you to make the clothes you’ve always dreamt of finding in your size and in an affordable way.

No experience required: beginners
Please bring your own sewing machine.

Make Your Own Clothes Pattern!

Design your own garment - Weekend course


Saturday 28th July 2018 & Sunday 29th July 2018. 10am-4pm

This course will enable you to build upon basic sewing and dressmaking skills and take your designs further! Looking at different shapes and design features, you will learn how to draft a basic pattern block and adapt it to your own design.

This course will look at the design features of clothing to enable you to turn basic garments into special pieces and adapt patterns to incorporate the features that you want.

This includes different types of collars and cuffs, different sleeve shapes (such as puff, peasant, bell and bishop), skirt shapes (including godets, frills, A-Line, pencil and pleats), different types of darts in tops and widening/tapering trousers.

You will also have the opportunity to draft a pattern block of either a blouse, skirt or trousers from your own measurements and make a toile.

Some experience required: intermediate/improvers
Please bring your own sewing machine.
