Connected Explorers, Brazil 2016
Manchester School of Art represented UK Education for the Creative Industries for the British Consulate at the British Pavilion during the Olympic Games in Rio in August 2016. Comprising of a student and staff team, we devised an interactive, multimedia project that connected our two cities. Made up of images showcasing Manchesterís sporting and cultural excellence alongside images submitted by the public of them participating in all sorts of games, the multimedia tapestry project joined our two cities with a big screen at British House in Rio during the Olympic Games and on display at HOME in Manchester simultaneously.
As part of the project, we partnered with Oi Kabum!, an art & media project working with young people from Rioís most disadvantaged areas. We worked remotely with Oi Kabum! remotely for the majority of the year then spent three days producing work with them on their premises in Ipanema, Rio.
