Textiles in Practice
Laura McPherson is a 0.5 Lecturer on the BA(Hons) undergraduate programme Textiles in Practice (TIP), as a core member of TIP team Laura works across disciplines with a specialism in knit.
Laura is a freelance Knit Designer based in London. After studying her BA (Hons) in Textile Design at Winchester School of Art she spent a year in industry before re-locating to London to complete her MA in Constructed Textiles at the Royal College of Art.
Laura has worked in Italy for International fashion company Missoni as a Knitwear and colour specialist. As a freelance designer her work aims to challenge the perceptions of knit and embraces an experimental approach to materials, yarn and dye techniques. Exploring sculptural form and texture her pieces are regularly used to illustrate future trends in forecasting publications. Clients include WGSN, Sophie Steller, SpinExpo and Textile View magazine, where she is regularly sole contributor to the Knitwear forecast.
Laura’s research interests are in innovative yarn and material technology explored through practical and theoretical outputs.
