Significance Touring Exhibition 2016-17

Significance is a project co-ordinated by Alice Kettle and Jane McKeating and brought to fruition by staff and students from Manchester School of Art to celebrate the significance of the Gawthorpe Textile Collection.

In selecting a textile from the Gawthorpe collection, I was drawn to an unfinished embroidery sample. My response has been to explore, through drawing, the missing elements of this embroidery. Using digital animation I have been able to identify and isolate aspects, which interest me. This work of ‘drawn’ animations and screen printed ‘stills’, threads a continuing narrative from the unfinished sample.

I have an interest in the unfinished and I make work, which often sits just short of being complete. I do this because I want there to remain a connection between myself, and those who view my work. The opportunity to respond to The Gawthorpe Collection is an invitation to continue a significant textile narrative.
