I began my career at MMU in 2005 as a house assistant in the John Dalton Building. In 2007 I enrolled on a Career Development Programme called New Horizons, which is designed to help you develop and progress in your career or even change your direction.
Part of the New Horizons course involved shadowing and placement opportunities and it was as a result of my placement as a Technician in the Faculty of Art and Design that my career direction changed. I gained a lot of knowledge and learnt lots of things about myself which all helped me to successfully apply for and secure the post of Flexible Technician in the Grosvenor Technical Team. Shortly after, I successfully completed the New Horizons course at MMU in the summer of 2008.
I work in a variety of areas including the wood workshop, fabric store, Foundation and the Mabel Tylecote Theatre where I assist with the set building. I am discovering lots of new skills so eventually I will have a very good all round technical knowledge.
I really enjoy helping the students and staff that I work with.
The most fulfilling part of my job is that I work in so many different areas and I am learning every day.
