Following graduation from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2003 with a BA (Hons) in Textiles (specialising in print), Liz went on to work as a Textile designer. Working at a retail head office, she designed interior textile products liaising closely with buyers and suppliers to build ranges for future trends. Moving into the supplier side, she continued designing a variety of interior textiles for a number of well-known high street retailers travelling across Europe to research designs through competitor shopping trips, attending trend/trade shows and manufacturer visits.
As Head of Print for a contract furnishing company, Liz designed seasonal print collections and worked directly with customers for bespoke designs for the hospitality and healthcare sectors for clients across the globe. Overseeing digital print production in-house, working with factories in Europe to colour match design collections, and approving bulk production for thousands of meters of fabric. Once collections were complete, Liz worked with the design team to ‘style’ the products creating photoshoots on location for marketing materials to showcase the range.
After years working as a designer, Liz returned to Education to study a PGCE in Textiles and has taught in secondary schools and sixth forms.
Liz continues to work on freelance design projects alongside her position as a Technical Officer in Print. She finds her role in the University is one that combines her industry knowledge and teaching background, Liz enjoys passing her experience and knowledge on to students.
