Upon completion of her "A" levels, Sue joined the staff of the, then, John Dalton Faculty of Science & Technology, Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University), as a Technician in the Department of Physics & Mathematics in September 1974. The role was to work within a team of technicians to develop and maintain the facilities and equipment in the Physics laboratories (Electronics, Optics, Acoustics, General and Nuclear Physics) in addition to using the photographic and workshop facilities.
In January 1979, having gained CGLI SL Technician Certificates Parts 1 & 2, Sue was appointed Senior Technician to the School of Architecture in the Faculty of Art & Design. Technical qualifications were completed the following June when Sue received the Part 3 certificate which entitled her to the award of Full Technological Certificate and eligibility for Membership of the Institute of Science & Technology.
The main duties of this role included responsibility for the Environmental Science & Technology laboratories and the development and maintenance of the equipment within this area. Sue was also responsible for the Photography & reprographic facilities and it was in this area that she developed extensive skills in Architectural model photography and, subsequently, actual model making.
The re-structuring of the Faculty in the early 1990's gave Sue the opportunity for further study (at MMU) and in 1995 she was awarded an HNC in Business & Finance before graduating with a BA(Hons) Business Studies in 1998.
In her present position as Technical Services Manager of the Makers Team, Sue is responsible for the management and provision of an effective technical service within all the making workshop areas in Chatham, Cavendish & Grosvenor buildings.
