Connecting points: an international field study trip

13 June 2022

Our visit to the launch of the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art was an outstanding experience for both staff and students!

The Biennale opened last week at various venues around the German capital and was curated by visual artist Kader Attia. This iteration of the Biennale revolves around questions such as "how could we contribute to just slightly reorient the perception of the world without pretending that an art exhibition can change the world?”

Alongside the Biennale, Berlin is furnished with incredibly rich visual art resources and students were able to visit the exhibitions and collections at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Hambuger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Akademie der Künste, Nationalgalerie, Stasi Headquarters, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein amongst others.

A particular highlight was our visit to Edition Block, where René Block generously introduced us to his gallery and collection, inviting us to think with him and discuss the various artistic positions presented in his current exhibition.

There are regular study trips organised by MAs in Contemporary Curating, Fine Art and Painting programmes, addressing a number of inter-related fields of creative practice and theoretical approaches situating them in historical and critical contexts and supporting various components of the Art PGT degrees to be globally connected.
