Dr Daniel Fountain FHEA

Senior Research Assistant

Daniel Fountain is a Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Art and Performance where they primarily support Dr Kai Syng Tan with creative research projects centred around equity, diversity and inclusion. They also contribute to the BA Fine Art and MA in Executive Arts Leadership programmes.

Daniel is a scholar of contemporary art whose work contributes to the fields of art history and visual culture, queer studies and craft studies. Trained in both Fine Art and Art History, Daniel is an artist, writer and curator, and they completed a PhD in Feminism, Sexual Politics and Visual Culture at Loughborough University in 2021. Recent international exhibitions include the 2019 Venice Biennale, Slippery and Subversive (Wellington B Gray Gallery, North Carolina), and Queer Art(ists) Now (London). They have written for a range of popular publications such as Burlington Contemporary and MAP Magazine, as well as academic peer-reviewed journals such as Art History and QED: A Journal in GLBTQ Worldmaking.

They have taught at institutions such as the Royal School of Needlework, Nottingham Trent University, Loughborough University and University of Manitoba, Canada.

Daniel is Deputy Representative for Greater Manchester's LGBTQI+ Arts and Culture Network and also serves on the Association For Art History's Doctoral and Early Career Researcher Committee.
