Textiles in Practice
Laura McPherson is a 0.5 Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) undergraduate programme Textiles in Practice (TIP), as a core member of TIP team Laura works across disciplines with a specialism in knit.
Laura McPherson is a Knitted Textiles and Knitwear Designer and consultant based in the UK, with a passion for research, an in depth knowledge of the industry and adaptable design skills. After studying her BA (Hons) in Textile Design at Winchester School of Art she spent a year in industry before re-locating to London to complete her MA in Constructed Textiles at the Royal College of Art.
Laura has worked in Italy for International fashion company Missoni as a Knitwear and colour specialist As a freelance designer Laura's work aims to challenge the perceptions of knit and embraces an experimental approach to materials, yarn and dye techniques. Clients include Spinexpo, Ralph Lauren, Theory, Brioni, Robert Graham, TSE and Calvin Klein. Working at the intersection of textile innovation and new materiality. Her studio practice lies at the intersection of material innovation, adopting a hybrid approach to technologies such as 3D Printing and Heat Setting.
Laura’s research interests are in innovative yarn and material technology explored through practical and theoretical outputs.
