Good Design
A great idea
An inspiring Story
Observation and Curiosity
Elements that underpin my approach to creative practice.

Before taking up the position of senior lecturer and admissions tutor at Manchester Metropolitan University my career started in London working for award winning packaging and graphic design companies where projects involved working with packaging, art direction, illustration, corporate literature, promotion and book design.

Throughout my creative career my points of reference and inspiration have been through practitioners who innovatively fused design and imagery in an expressive way - Robert Massinís expressive illustrative typography, Eric Ravillious and Edward Bawden who blurred the lines between designer and illustrator. Paul Rand and Abram Games who seamlessly moved between graphic design and image making.

These influences and career opportunities have led to my interest and focus on communication and storytelling through words, images or structure with a specialist interest in Artistsí Books.

My research focuses on the narrative of paper construction, where cutting and folding as a process develops the sequence of a narrative.

This year I co-curated an exhibition at MMU library in collaboration with MMU Special Collections and an artists' book project with students.
