It was Steph's interest in art and installation that led her to theatre. Steph trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2004 achieving a Post-Graduate Diploma in Theatre Design. In 2005 Steph was appointed Trainee Designer at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick. Steph studied BA Honours in Art and Drama with Theatre at the University of Chester.

In April 1999 Steph took part in a five-week work placement programme at the Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival as an arts practitioner. Steph was assigned her own project and worked on community-based work. She was asked to return to Hong Kong in October that year for two weeks to assist with the Shopping Circus, a visual arts project with Ralph Koltai, CBE.

After graduating in 2000, Steph collaborated with Angela Sidwell, a sculptor and community based artist and set up an ongoing venture to design and create sculpture. Steph assisted a commission by Halton Borough Council to create an Alice in Wonderland scultpure for Tongling, their twinned city in China. In 2008 she visited Tongling City on a cultural exchange and agreed on an installation location for the Sculpture.

Steph is currently Stage Manager at MMU's Manchester School of Theatre. She has held this post since 2008. Prior to this Steph worked as a freelance Theatre Designer for four years. During this time Steph designed five productions at the Capitol Theatre.
