Mufaro Makubika is an award-winning writer of Zimbabwean descent from Nottingham. He won the Alfred Fagon Award for the best new play in 2017 with SHEBEEN which opened at Nottingham Playhouse before transferring to Theatre Royal Stratford East in London. Other credits include MALINDADZIMU (Hampstead Theatre), THIS IS NOT A COUP (Paines Plough) and WE NEED NEW NAMES (Fifth Word/New Perspectives and Brixton House). Mufaro also won the 2023 Theatre Royal Haymarket Writers’ Award sponsored by Donmar Warehouse and Access Entertainment. He has been on attachment with the National Theatre and was a writer in residence with Paine Plough Theatre Company.
