Exploring Territories: The Changing Landscape of Art & Design Higher Education

10am—4pm

The landscape of art and design higher education is changing rapidly in response to both external drivers and the evolution of the disciplines themselves.

On one level institutions are operating in an increasingly competitive environment, with some promoting and supporting creative subjects, whereas in others, art and design is increasingly marginalised.

Opportunities arise for some through new partnerships alongside humanities, science, engineering and health, extending boundaries and creating innovations in teaching and research. New technologies and their impact on creative pedagogies encourage developments in learning and teaching.

Changes which are taking place against the backdrop of higher education reform in the shape of the Teaching Excellence Framework and new political landscapes.
