Drawing the Modern: Closing Event

The work of Gordon Hodkinson and post-war architectural education in Manchester

6pm—8pm

Drawing the Modern draws on the archive of Gordon Hodkinson (1928-2018), a student of architecture at Manchester Municipal School of Art in the 1940s-1950s. The exhibition explores post-war architectural education through a selection of Hodkinson’s drawings including sketches, gouache rendered plans and construction details, as well as project briefs and lecture notes.

This event is to celebrate the closing of our exhibition and to launch a publication with a short history of architectural education in Manchester. To accompany the launch architectural commentator Phil Griffin will chair a panel discussion about education and influences on practice. We will be joined by an esteemed panel of Architects - Rachel Haugh (Simpson:Haugh), Ian Beaumont (MBLA/Buttress) and John Walker (Walker Simpson) - who are invited to reflect upon their own studies and how it has informed their work.
