About this Event

The Future of Design workshops have been travelling across the UK and delighted to be visiting Manchester on 24th January. We’ll be bringing together designers from different disciplines – graphic, service, architecture, fashion to name a few – to share the latest thinking and encourage conversations on evolving design practice and what we need to make the case for design.

Future Design Impact Research

The Design Economy 2018 is Design Council's ground-breaking research into the scale of the economic impact of design. It demonstrates the importance of design and how it generated £85.2 billion to the UK economy in 2016. This is equivalent to 73% of the value generated by UK financial services and insurance industry.

Ahead of Design Council’s Design Economy 2021, we want to hear your views and understand what designers need to make the case for design and what research questions about design’s impact should we be aiming to answer. For example, how might we collectively capture the social, environmental and cultural impact of design?

Evolving Design Practice

The Double Diamond method was created 15 years ago when Design Council looked at how the best designers were creating innovative new products. It now sits at the heart of our Framework for Innovation.

As design has developed to tackle increasingly complex challenges, designers have begun to use new approaches working with multi-disciplinary partners in other design and non-design professions. We want to bring together a diverse range of people to this workshop to discuss the approaches are being used now, consider what is coming next and – like the ‘Double Diamond’ – try to make visible the often ‘invisible’ design practices so that others can realise the value in them.
