Birth of an artist: L.S. Lowry and Manchester School of Art

A public lecture by Michael Howard

To celebrate the naming of the Lowry Building, Manchester Metropolitan University are delighted to host this special public lecture on the world renowned artist.

Lowry studied at Manchester School of Art from 1905–1915 and he frequently cited the significance this time had on his development as an artist.

The lecture – ‘Birth of an artist: L.S. Lowry and Manchester School of Art’ – will be delivered by artist, author and renowned Lowry expert Michael Howard.

Michael taught History of Art for many years at Manchester Met. He is now an independent scholar, writer, painter and curator. He has lectured at universities and galleries around the word and is the author of many books, including the ground-breaking study of L.S. Lowry ‘L.S. Lowry: A Visionary Artist’, in 2000.

The lecture begins at 2.30pm. Welcome refreshments will be served from 2.10pm.
