Beachcroft external commision with staff and students 2010 + 2019

Beachcroft Commission was an experimental, site specific project involving both staff and students, designed to model collaborative professional practice within a live office environment. Students pitched proposals directly to the client and worked to develop responsive artworks for the space, gaining experience of commissioning, site specific thinking and material decision making. Academic staff produced work alongside students, actively mentoring through the process and intentionally levelling hierarchies between staff and students to foreground shared creative enquiry. Working to agreed materials budgets, the project supported the development of professional confidence, peer learning and an understanding of how artwork can meaningfully respond to site, context and client expectations.The project ran again in 2019 however was postponed after the commissions were awarded due to Covid.
