Joe Trickett

Joe Trickett is a designer, lecturer and researcher working BA(Hons) Interior Design at Manchester School of Art.

Joe joined MSoA following academic roles at INTO University Partnerships, Southampton Solent and York St John's University.
Joe works predominantly with L5 (second year) students where his practical and professional knowledge feeds directly into the pragmatic requirements of the delivery. Writing modules that are underpinned by the disciplines regulatory requirements and preparing students for a professional audience through live and collaborative projects.

Joe established a successful career as a commercial Interior Designer, designing for a number of award winning practices, working predominantly with global retail brands such as Asics, Radley, Heineken, Man City FC, Chelsea FC and P&O Ferries. These were paired with domestic educational projects and a range of hospitality clients to give Joe a diverse and accomplished portfolio. Joe keeps one foot in the industry and continues to work with retail clients on a freelance basis.

Joe teaches because he loves learning; In 2022 he was awarded with PGCLTHE from Solent University along with Fellow status by the Higher Education Academy and in 2023 was awarded a Masters Level Distinction in Interiors from MSoA.

An activist and a maker at heart, Joe's research interests lie in Circular and Regenerative design, repurposing Permaculture principles and lowering the barrier of entry into the design process to broaden dialogue and achieve highly functional outcomes.
