Output Type:Presentation
Venue:Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester

Invited presentation to the Newcomen Society. This talk will focus on the post-war era and transport planning in Manchester. It will examine ambitious plans for the reconfiguration of the city centred upon petrol fuelled mobility. The decline of the tramcar, the historic disconnection of the railway stations, the failure to deliver an underground and the ultimate realisation of the stop gap that is the Mancunian Way will all be brought into the presentation and related to the motor driven dreams of the city planners and engineers between 1945 and 1974.
