This funding opportunity called for joint UK-China research projects to explore the potential of the creative economy to drive sustainable and inclusive growth in China. The proposal therefore aimed to establish a multi-disciplinary research network of UK & Chinese academics to pursue research activities through engagement with cultural, and commercial stakeholders, and other constituent groups. Utilising observational and participatory research methods in the investigation of alternative strategies for sustainable urban renewal of China's in post-industrial areas. Funding of £250,000, over 30 month's duration was awarded.

The researchers will now act from October 2018-October 2021 as consultants to several universities in China and work on a programme of development for former industrial sites. A strategy will be formed that will provide advice on redeveloping the industrial sites into creative hubs and cultural attractions.
