Trial and Error: the process of discovery

Mind Design

Investigating the importance of play, randomization and collaboration. This project showcases how students have developed a greater understanding of the value of experimentation as part of the process of discovery to end up with lateral and disruptive solutions rather than literal and predicable outcomes.

“AntiSystematic Actions”

As part of the cross disciplinary UNIT X in the School of Art, Level 5 students from Graphic Design, Craft, Illustration, Textiles and Product Design at Manchester School of Art students completed “AntiSystematic Actions”, a one-day workshop as part of the Trial and Error UNIT X Level 5 brief. Working on the theory of chance and system in developing practice, each student created their own individual brief, made from a set of randomly chosen actions, observations, and outcomes.

Students from Manchester School of Art, working alongside students from University of the Arts London exhibited their work in UCL Chelsea Gallery in April 2024. Student work was also projected onto Tate London on the opening night of the exhibition.
