Students-led exhibition project at Saan1
3 April 2025
The exhibition project 'Memoria et Locus' is co-curated by the current MA Contemporary Curating students
Memoria et Locus is an exhibition project that delves into the layered relationship between memory and place. Through diverse approaches, these artists explore place as a fluid and shifting entity—shaped by personal archives, subconscious landscapes, and the tension between history and imagination.
Private View: 3rd April, 19.00-21.00 pm
Venue: Saan1
5 Kelvin St, Manchester M4 1ET
Participating artists: Mia Phillips; Emily Irwin; Reece Veitch; Ashleigh Worden
Co-curated by Aur Bleddyn; Gareth Ogden; Hope Gallegos
The works on display examine how memories become entangled with locations, creating a complex interplay between reality and perception. Utilizing techniques such as collaging, sensory memory, and the fragmentation of time, the artists question how places are remembered, fabricated, and emotionally moulded. There is no singular truth—only individual perspectives woven through wires of thought and feeling, shaping personal and collective histories.
Co-curated by Hope Gallegos, Aur Bleddyn, and Gareth Ogden, Memoria et Locus is a collaboration between MA Contemporary Curating students and Fine Art students from the Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University. The exhibition presents a dialogue between artistic practice and curatorial engagement, exploring how memories can be mapped, reimagined, or disrupted through creative constructs that shape our understanding of place.
