The “Curators of Tomorrow” fellowships programme

The “Curators of Tomorrow” is a unique initiative to support a fellowships programme of the MA/MFA Contemporary Curating programme (Manchester School of Art) to create opportunities for emerging curators.

The Fellowships for the “Curators of Tomorrow” collaboration are designed mainly for current students who are about to engage with the professional practice stage of their MA/MFA Contemporary Curating studies.

Throughout the MA/MFA Contemporary Curating programme, students are encouraged to explore the shifting relationship between artist-institution-curator-critic/writer which forms a central element to the course. How diverse methods and experimental processes continue to be relevant in curatorial practice is a key emerging aspect of the programme.

The Residency Programme at Q21/MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, aims to foster a range of forms of production that support contemporary art. This international exchange programme is aimed at curators, theoreticians and cultural producers working in fields that include, among others: of digital culture, fine art, photography, film, literature, conceptual art, theory, sound art, media art.

Selected participants of the “Curators of Tomorrow” collaboration are given the opportunity to live and work for the period of one month in one of the Q21 studios at MuseumsQuartier. The residents benefit greatly from the immediate proximity of the local art scene. They expand their international networks through the Q21 “Curators of Tomorrow” Residency Programme through new opportunities and insights into variety of the cultures.

The Q21 “Curators of Tomorrow” Residency Programme seeks proactive practitioners with an open minds and from positions. The selected participants of this collaboration will receive project feedback are pointed toward useful connections with institutions and organizations in Vienna, and gain additional further direction on monthly basis.

The MA/MFA Contemporary Curating programme in collaboration with Q21/MuseumsQuartier Wien jointly support the fellowships and forms the jury to select the participants.

Manchester School of Art considers it important to provide talented creatives with opportunities to develop an international profile while ensuring an international exchange within a laboratory context for inter- and trans-disciplinary activities.
