A note from Mila Januszova, curator.

"I curated the exhibition as part of my internship.

It is my response to the space and my own interaction with the Manchester Poetry Library staff and the various tasks/events I've helped with so far. And a play on my mixed Polish/English heritage, as Martin (Project Manager) introduced me to the Polish poetry section that he put together with Bohdan Piasecki. This sparked inspiration to create an exhibition around Polish poets, predominantly Polish female poets. As I really love how the library creates a platform of inclusivity, recognition, and a voice of various artists from around the world, the unheard and unspoken about.

I'm focusing on female poets, as from my own research I found that women during 19th/20th Century weren't as appreciated nor taken seriously as poets. And it is also part of my own curatorial and artistic practice, bringing voices to all women, and the underrepresented into the public space. I have looked at the collection we have in the library, and through researching online of Polish female poets. I was overjoyed that there are now so many!"
