Imagined Homeland (2017)

In 2017, in partnership with Manchester International Festival, Mitha curated Imagined Homeland. His research contributed to a new narrative around partition and brought eminent speakers to debate on this provocative subject. It discussed the historical journeys that formed the largest mass migration in human history, (2017 marked the 70th anniversary of the Partition of India 1947 into India and Pakistan including what later became Bangladesh) separating Pakistan and India, creating a nationalist struggle with mass abduction and savage sexual violence. This research brought new ways of understanding conflict that addressed the lack of engagement with partition history.
