Pearl Academy

After almost a year of planning, over 160 interior design students and staff across 5 campuses at Pearl Academy and Manchester Met came together for a 4 week collaborative online learning project (COIL) celebrating the culturally rich heritage of Jaipur and Manchester. Responding to the 'pink city' of Jaipur and red-brick vernacular of Manchester; students were introduced to both locations, focussing on two historically significant buildings; the Queen's Palace in Jaipur and Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Students worked collaboratively in mixed groups to design conceptual proposals for creative and adaptive reuse of both locations. Students were introduced to a variety of research methods to help with critical site analysis, and had to navigate through at times challenging issues such as working collaboratively and culturally ‘cross borders’ across a 5 hour time zone.
