Sophia Fenlon

Lecturer
Textiles in Practice

Sophia Fenlon is a practising textile designer, weaver and lecturer. She holds a BA in Textile Design for Fashion from the University of Brighton and an MA in Textiles from the Royal College of Art. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

A love of offbeat colour, contrasting texture and unconventional material composition transcends throughout her work to create playful, often subversive designs. She utilises jacquard, dobby weaving and mixed media textile techniques to translate her dynamic research themes into cloth; challenging the constraints of the loom through distortion of scale, pattern and repeat.

Sophia has a broad range of experience within the fashion textiles industry having worked in fabric sourcing, design and development. She now operates as freelance designer with clients and collaborators including; Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, Lululemon, Calvin Klein, Knoll, Cos, The Row and Esteban Cortazar

Her work has been exhibited internationally at trade show's and events including; Premier Vision Paris; Indigo Salon & Maison D'Exceptions, Premier Vision New York, London Craft Week, Denim Days, London & Paris Fashion Week and the Yugen JTex Showroom Paris.
