Márcia Limma

Márcia Limma is an award-winning actress, singer and cultural producer. She has a Masters in Performing Arts from the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil), and her professional career spans over two decades. She is a founder member of Brazilian theatre group Grupo Vilavox, and has collaborated with a number of other important Brazilian collectives and directors. Limma's solo performance, Medéia Negra, was considered one of the most important Brazilian theatre productions of 2019. She speaks of her creative process as an afrocentric re-articulation of the classical character of Medea, filtered through her encounters with modern-day women in the criminal justice system. Limma will speak to this experience and her work as an artivist, making political theatre and performance in the current, challenging Brazilian cultural landscape.
