Manchester After Hours / Northern Quarter After Dark

Northern Quarter After Dark is part of a new festival of creativity Manchester After Hours – a one night only nocturnal event across Manchester’s arts venues and districts on Thursday 15 May.

First and second year students from Manchester School of Art will be exhibiting their work across venues in Manchester's Northern Quarter as part of the late night festival.

Their work has been developed during Unit X, an innovative project from Manchester School of Art which brings together art, design and media students from different year groups to work on live projects with outside organisations, businesses and venues across the city.

Manchester School of Art students are exhibiting at the following venues:

Dry Bar

30 Oldham Street, Manchester, M1 1JN

Manchester's historic Dry Bar hosts an art installation created by the Manchester School of Art as part of our Unit X initiative. New creative talent from the Creative Multi-Media, Interior Design and Film and Media Studies courses have worked together with Dry Bar staff to create artworks to help launch the countdown to the Dry Bar's 25th anniversary.

Federation House

Federation House, (Castlefield Gallery), Federation Building, Federation Street, Manchester. M4 2AH

This exhibition is on the top floor of the new arts space at Federation House and is part of an ongoing relationship with Castlefield Gallery to bridge the gap between students and professional practitioners. The quality, range and diversity of the work on display is ample evidence of the city's continuing vibrant, creative pulse.

Hyper Island

A collaborative installation created by students from Interior Design, Creative Multi Media and Film and Media Studies. The project is also a wider collaboration with students from Hyper Island.

Mad Lab

36-40 Edge St, Manchester M4 1HN

An art installation at the well known technology and community venue MadLab. Staff worked on a brief with the MadLab staff, and the students have been busy working on ideas, pitching them back to the staff before installing their creation ready for you to be dazzled on the night. The work is a collaboration between Interior Design, Creative Multi-Media and Film and Media Studies courses.

Manchester Central Library

St Peters Square, City Centre, M2 5PD

In the 1930's, students from Manchester School of Art produced a set of posters to promote the city. Now the current students have taken a contemporary view of the project to create their own set of posters. The Graphic Design and Illustration With Animation courses have worked together to produce a unique set of artworks in response to a brief set by Manchester Central Library.

New Century House

Working in groups on diverse range of briefs with a variety of partners, these exhibitions turn 4 floors of the former Co-op offices into exciting and unusual creative spaces.

Nexus Art Café

2 Dale St, Manchester M1 1JW

A collaborative installation created by students from Interior Design, Creative Multi Media and Film and Media Studies. A brief was developed and set with Nexus Art Cafe, set to the students, who then pitched their ideas back. Working with the venue they then installed the work ready for you to explore on the night.

Twenty Twenty Two

20 Dale St, Manchester, Greater Manchetser M1 1EZ

A collaborative installation created by students from Interior Design, Creative Multi Media and Film and Media Studies. A brief was developed and set with Twenty Twenty Two, partly around their Glow in the Dark table tennis tables, the venue and the history of the place. The students then worked on ideas, pitched them, and developed them with the venue ready for you to explore on the night.
