Introduction to Dressmaking

Tuesday evenings for 6 weeks starting 18th April, 6.30pm–9pm

An introduction into dressmaking – this course will enable you to make your own clothes by explaining and demonstrating pattern construction and fabric choice. The course will support you as you cut, sew and fit your own individual garment!

This course will introduce you to the basics of garment construction. It covers getting to grips with a sewing machine, basic sewing skills and advice on equipment needed to start your own projects. Learn how to select and accurately cut a pattern, as well as how to choose an appropriate fabric. You will learn essential dressmaking techniques such as finishing seams, how to set a sleeve, how to hem a skirt/dress, how to alter the garment to get a unique fit and how to finish your work to a high quality standard. This course will also cover how to alter patterns to incorporate design features, allowing you to make the clothes you’ve always dreamt of finding in your size and in an affordable way.

Courses will only run subject to sufficient enrolments. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SEWING MACHINE. All other practice materials will be provided but you will need to buy your own patterns and fabric.
