The Politics of Climate Change

Kyoto veteran talks at MMU

ONE of the first UK scientists to warn of rising seas and temperatures caused by man-made activities will be speaking at Manchester Metropolitan University on Friday, June 1.

Derek Norman, chairman of the North West Climate Change Group and a former industrialist, will give the Dalton Research Institute Seminar on ‘The Politics of Climate Change’.

He is the guest of the Dalton Research Institute’s Environment Centre whose research includes glacial melt and the impact of aviation on climate.

Derek is a former environment director of Pilkington Glass and chairman of the Environment Agency’s protection committee (REPAC). He is also a member of the UK Round Table on Sustainable Development.

Kyoto Summit

"Derek attended the Rio Earth Summit and Kyoto and has a wealth of insight into the evolution of the politics of climate change. It promises to be a fascinating talk," said Professor Callum Thomas, Chair of Sustainable Aviation at MMU.

The Seminar takes place in Room E 0.05a, John Dalton Building at 12 noon, on Friday, June 1.
