This chapter begins with an overview of design for behaviour change models, processes and tools that have been applied within the five domains of sustainability, health and wellbeing, social design, safety and design against crime. In order to address the challenges of design for behaviour change and to facilitate the changes in design thinking that this requires, it is necessary to consider also the changes in the design process. In the context of the social design chapter, there are few case studies which further communicate how design for behaviour change processes can be applied in a participatory manner: IDEO.org's Field Guide to Human-Centred Design, the Design Council's Knee High Design Challenge and Santiago Cirugeda's guide to guerrilla installations. In the example by IDEO, they had developed mechanisms and processes to enable participants to take the lead in developing their own solutions.
